Hi,
Thanks for the forum. I've been browsing around trying to get a good idea of what living in Lombok might be like, but I still have some questions. I wonder if someone living there can enlighten me a little bit.
I will be flying into Bali in a few months. My plan is to stay in the area for 6-9 months, basically writing a book. I also work with internet, so I need to have some kind of connection (even if it's a reasonably slow one, such as mobile). As my trip looms forward, I am fearing that I will find Bali too crowded, too expensive and too touristy. I am basically looking to rent a small house or bungalow, no frills, basic and clean accomodation, in a natural environment, with few or none neighbours, quiet and safe. If it's by the sea, much better; but I guess that might make things more difficult. Since I will be travelling alone, I also would like to live not too far from like-minded people, to socialise once in a while (but I want to avoid tourist traps, surfer's heavens and all-week partying kind of places). My budget is around 2-3 milion IDR monthly rental.
I wonder if, instead of looking in Bali, I should go directly to Lombok. Could someone tell me:
- Is it possible to find the kind of place I am looking for over there?
- Where should I be looking?
- Is the internet connection such a problem as some posts suggest?
- Am I restricting it too much looking in Lombok and Bali only? Perhaps there are other islands nearby in Indonesia where it is possible to live much cheaper and closer to nature/sea/community?
Thank you very much for your help.
