| Hi everyone, my name is Susie Myself and Aris, my husband, from Bandung, Java have been thinking of moving to Lombok for a few years now. Aris will be in Lombok sometime after Ramadan and will be looking for a room to rent for a month while he is getting some information together. Any advice on a cheap room around Sengiggi/Mataram. We have two daughters 7 and 11 so we would have to live in that area for a school that used english. Aris is also looking for work as cook although do realise Bali is proberly the better option there. Any advise, information on a move to Lombok would be very much appreciated thanks Susie

| Hi Susie The Nusa Alam International school teaches in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, although it is International school fees so exensive if you are trying to live on a small income. It is out of reach for anyone on a local income. It is located at Montong, which is between sengggigi and mataram, and also quite a nice place to live. They have a website if you google.
I'm sure if Aris asks around he will find a room to rent. I assume you don't mean a hotel/homestay, but more like a kost? There are numerous options, both near Senggigi and in Mataram near the university for example. The best way is just to go to the area and ask around, the local warungs are a good place to start asking.
If Aris is qualified/experienced he will stand a better chance of picking up a job in Lombok. There are the restaurants around Senggigi plus the Gili, and some private villas. As with all things Indonesian it is who you know that makes the difference. Start with anyone he knows, and talk to people at the mosque and network, network.
What makes you interested in living in Lombok? Have you spent any time on Lombok?
Freo

| Hi Susie Welcome to Lombok Lovers. I am afraid I cant help with work or school info for Sengiggi area. We will be schooling our son in Praya but it will be in Indonesian. He speaks both Indonesian and English so it wont be an issue. We can not afford Nusa Alam, apart from the fact it is too far away from us. My two nieces went to school in Praya and are scholership, award winning students so I know that he can get a good education in Praya. Good luck with the move. | |

| thanks Freogirl and Gemma.
I was mainly after info on where to start looking and prices for a basic room for a month. I will tell Aris about Motong. I looked at the Nusa Alam website last year and realise its very expensive but you expect that if you need english speaking teachers.
I was in Lombok about ten years ago for a month and liked the general feel of the island though I'm sure many things have changed. Bali is too expensive and over crowded, though I like it for a visit. We don't want to live in Bandung so are checking out Lombok to see if we could manage there financially as that is always the big consideration with anything.
cheers

| Hi Susiadi, if you mean LTDC's development near Kuta Lombok, there have been a few discussions here, if you search the forum for Emaar you can read them. | |

| Gemma would be able to give you a better idea of the expats in that area. I know the expats in Lombok has grown significantly in the last 3-4 years, but I don't know that there is all that much around kuta yet. There are a lot of expats living in Green Valley and on "the hill" in Senggigi. It will come to Kuta though. It has to. | |

| Hi Susiadi
There are some but not a lot of expats in the Kuta area and I don't know that they would offer enough business to support a deli. You may get some business from the hotels and restaurants too though. At the moment Kuta doesnt even have a mini market or supermarket. We shop in small warungs only. The nearest mall is in Mataram 50+kms away.

| Ken's hotel is just north of the main intersection. My wife & I have land just south, so we will be neighbors Binalovina. My name is Tom and my wife's is Susi. We plan to move to Kuta in just over a year.
I wish someone would open a private/international school in the area. Susi says there are lotsa locals marrying bules so there should be kids to follow.

| Though the idea of an international school is nice, we certainly wouldnt be able to afford International school prices on our income.
Martin will be starting school here in Kuta this year. There is at least one other expat child that I know of in school there and I am sure there will be more.
