PostSubject: house for sale & health insurance question   house for sale & health insurance question Icon_minitimeSat Feb 21, 2009 10:21 am

Hi there,

Does anyone know of a house for sale in the senggigi area? My husband (from lombok) and I are moving to the area soon.

Also can anyone tell me about the private health insurance over there? Or what you expats do when sick?

And for you business owners, can anyone reccommend a good insurance company for businesses?

Thanks for any help.

Maya

There is (or was) a house for sale in Mangsit - which is just north of Senggigi and nicely located just across the road from the beach. To find it - it is just before the school - on the right hand side of the road you pass a field and then you get to some local buildings and there is a small gang (local warung at the corner and Qunci Pool Villas across the road) and it is just a little bit down the gang. It is a double storey place with alang alang roof (the only double storey you can see around there). There is usually a phone number tacked onto the gate to ring for sale or rent. You could even rent it for a while and then if you like it, buy it. We lived in the house behind it for a while and it was a great location.

Do a search on balipod.com in regard to insurance. There is a woman by the name of Sue Speak in Bali who I have heard it a reputable person who can advise you on insurance matters, her contact details have been posted there on Balipod or you could google her.

When are you moving to Lombok Maya?

Hi Maya

Glad you managed to get back on okay.

I am afraid I can't help much re houses in Senggigi or insurance.

I can tell you I had dengue fever last month and my 3 days in hospital in Bali cost 9 million. Shocked

Yes Josi.

This was at Kasih Ibu, whose care I can not fault but I do know that the 1.6 million for a room was only a fraction of that for locals. As would have been every aspect of my care.

when I see a general doctor at KI it costs me Rp250,000 (with my proof of KITAS) without that tourists pay Rp500,000 for a consultation. However my son sees the GP for Rp25,000 as he is Indonesian.

I can understand the prices being more for expat but there were some aspects I found irritating like seeing 2 doctors in 20 minutes and paying Rp250,000,for an examination by one then 300,000 for the same examnation seconds later!!

Have you looked into getting medical insurance Gemma? Wondering how expensive it is. Imagine if you got really sick - what would you do?

Thanks Freogirl I will let my husband know. He is overthere now trying to find a place. I will be moving over end next month with our daughter.

Gemma, do you mostly go to Bali for medical treatment? I have been to the general public hospital and the catholic hospital in lombok. I found the catholic much better, but am wondering if it is a lot safer in bali. Also for our daughter, is it easy to get immunisations and health checks done in lombok or better in bali?

thanks

Martin had his immunsations done in Lombok easilly enough however by the age of two he had already had whooping cough & measles, so I am not sure how effective they are. He has just got over chicken pox now too but obvioulsy he wasnt vaccinated against that.

I was in Bali when I got Dengue. Well actually I caught it in Lombok but started getting sick on the ferry on the way to Bali a few days later. Though Kasih Ibu was expensive I was happy with the treatment & care I received there.

I think there are good and bad doctors in both Bali & Lombok. But the worse experience of doctors I had (without going into to much detail) was a specialist in Mataram who without examing a 12 day old martin told me he needed weekly treatments for 6 months at a cost of 1 million per week. I left in tears as we just didnt have that kind of money at the time and on getting a second opinion elsewhere was told that there was absolutely nothing wrong and time has proven that to be the case!

Freo - general enquiries on forums, several years ago came up with a price of about 10 million per year for family cover. When you are nver really sick it seems a lot and if you thnk about it. If I had been paying that the last 10 years it would be 100 million. So it has still been cheaper to pay direct. Healthcare for Martin & Made is relatively cheap, them being locals. I would not feel right having cover for only me.

I may look at the costs of cover again but I think I would rather have that money in the bank incase of emergency, medical or otherwise than be paying insurance. Also there maybe years when we could afford it and years when we couldnt.

But yes healthcare as I get older is more of a worry for me now than it was 10 years ago!

Hi Lolo

For many years I was on an ikut suami social visa which allows you a maximum of 6 months in Indonesia then you leave the country to get a new one. I am now on a KITAS which is valid for a maximum of 5 years. I am not sure yet if I need to leave the country at the end of that period or not. It is still a couple of years away so I haven't looked into it.

Hi Gemma, are you on a KITAS or KITAP? I thought the KITAP was the Permanent Stay visa that allows 5 years. KITAS is only one year?

Lolo - have you seen this website?
Living In Indonesia Website

It explains that the rules for foreign men married to Indonesian women are quite different to foreign women married to Indonesian men.

I was interested to read under the men section an update where they discuss a 12 month social visa. Not mentioned under the women's section, I suppose because it is easier for women to get a kitas.

Gemma

Thanks for sharing your experience Very Happy
Ikut suami and sosial budaya are same?

Freogirl

Yes I know this website.... but there seem to be many ways for a foreigner to live in Indonesia... I meet many people and each of them have their own individual experience...

I am thinking about the most economic (and not difficult) way to stay in Indonesia.
I know that KITAS is very expensive, and Sosbud does not alllow foreigner to work... Well I am not so interested to work Laughing but in fact I need as I am still quite far from retirement scratch

Sorry to change the topic of the post...

Ok Freo - I am confused now!

I have let an agent deal with it and always thought it was a KITAS I was on. It was issued for one year and has to be renewed each year for a total of 5 years.

I just fished it out to have a look and the writing on the cover of the book has worn off.

On the ID card - that I use for ID for openng bank accounts, getting KITAS discount etc says...

Limited Stay Permit Card - so does that mean I am on a KITAP not KITAS?
