I read now a lot about indonesia but many things i not really understand or better there are explained in many different possiblities.
- I would like to live with my futur husband in lombok. If i would like to marry him in the future do I really have to convert to muslim?
- Health assurance.... is it not better to get a international insurance... which is very expensiv?
- Which visa is the best why to stay in indonesia for 1 year?
- My futur dream is to have a homestay but is it really rentable?

I thank you for helping me to get my dream true :-)

Have a nice day gemma!

Hi Kawaii

Sorry I didnt see your new message here must have posted at the same time as your PM.

1) I would like to live with my futur husband in lombok. If i would like to marry him in the future do I really have to convert to muslim?

I am afraid I do not know. My husband is Hindu and although I converted when we married it was in name only.

2) Health assurance.... is it not better to get a international insurance... which is very expensiv?

I do not have any type of insureance or assurance. Westerners generally pay more than locals. It isnt just about corruption. Many hospitals in Indonesia have 2/3 fixed rates - local, KITAS & Tourist.

I havent often been sick or ill but I did get Dengue at the beginning of the year, which ended up costing me 9 million in medical bills. (on Kitas) If I had insurance it would have probably been covered but then I have gone 11 years before this where I never needed it. As I get older health issues worry me a lot more.

3) many people use a social Visa - which is issued for 60 days and you extend for a month at a time until 6 months and then do a visa run to KL or Singapore and start again. Or you can get a KITAS which is vaid for a year and extendable 4 times to a max of 5 years. if you only plan on staying year I recommend the social visa.

4) Depends on the homestay if it is rentable or not. So many people told us we would never have guests opening a homestay away from the beach but they have been proved wrong flower However whether you can make enough at it to survive is another matter. I spent many years having to go to UK to work too.

PostSubject: Comparing health insurance costs   Wed Jun 17, 2009 1:56 am

Hi Gemma and Kawaii,

Whenever I read about Malaria or chickengunya and factor this with my plans for the next trip, these thoughts go through my mind.

1. Verify in advance with my group health plan what they will cover.
2. Have a contingency plan for going to Bali or Jakarta for treatment or to Singapore.
3. Cut shot my trip and return home.

I am curious about the cost of health insurance available after arrival in Indonesia.

Kawaii: Can you buy such insurance in Switzerland say for a year? If so, what will be the cost for a reasonable coverage (Doctor's office visit, brief hospital stay...)

I belong to the federal employees group insurance plan offered by the Blue Cross Blue Shield and I read the other day their franchise in a state (North Carolina) is going through a process to validate medical treatments available outside USA so that they can cover the insurance holders.

PostSubject: Health Insurance   Wed Dec 16, 2009 10:24 pm

Hi everyone, i am new in this forum and so so happy to find this forum..Smile) I love Lombok!
anyway, about health insurance, my husband and I are using interglobal jakarta. They are very good. When we were in Lombok, my husband got a problem with his eyes and we visited a local doctor. Interglobal were very good at assisting us at the time and they paid everyhting! It costs us around US$5000 a year for family (we have 2 kids). It has international coverage unless USA.
regards, Happy

That is about 50million per year which seems very expensive.

Insurance is something I am taking a renewed interest in as I understand to convert my KITAS to a KITAP I need to have a letter proving I have health insurance, so I would be interested in what other cheaper options anyone might know of.

The plan covers internationally (100% no deductible), you can go to any country you prefer to get your medical treatment. In the case of emergency, if your local hospital can not handle it, they will provide emergency evacuation to the nearest hospital. So I think it's worth it. I have 2 small kids and 1 is very sensitif, our last hospital (ER for 1 nite) bill was Rp. 7mill in Jakarta, and for his asthma usually we pay about Rp. 3mill (dr+medicine) per visit.
You can try local insurance like axa or prudential, they are the best. It's not as expensive as interglobal but you have to be careful, check out their benefit properly, the agent can be tricky;) you know what i mean...lol.

I would not need to have the best cover to medivac etc If I was sick I would want to be here with my family and friends. Having cover would be to facilitate me getting a KITAP though if I had it I would of course use it if needed here.

My son also suffers from asthma but we only pay Rp70,000 for a consultation for him with a pediatrician at Kasih Ibu. He is Indonesian nationality so it is cheaper. We have our own nebuliser so save the cost of that at hospital.
