Lombok or Bali? Empty
PostSubject: Lombok or Bali?    Lombok or Bali? Icon_minitimeMon Mar 28, 2011 7:34 am

Hi,

I'm considering spending the month of July in either Bali or Lombok. I'm trying to do this on a budget. I'm leaning towards Lombok. Does anyone know of relatively cheap accommodations in Lombok? I don't need much, a bed and A/C. Are there things to do in Lombok to keep busy for a month? I traveled to Bali a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it.

Thanks,

James

Sorry I can't help with accommodation but I'm sure others will soon. Sounds like a great idea. I'd love one month on Lombok. As to keeping busy depends what you're into. You don't tell us??? Like are you a surfer or diver or snorkeler?

Anyway welcome aboard! tongue

Hi,

I believe you can get reasonably priced accommodation in Lombok. I will offer three choices but you will hear from others also.

1. Tjabe Merah near Lombok airport run by someone from Holland with his family. It is in "downtown" area of Lombok. He has a website and you can look it up.

2. If you want to be in Sengiggi area frequented by westerners and want a place where you can meet interesting people, then consider "Santai Beach Inn". Run by a Brit for a long time with cottages, communal meals, library and beach front and good price - you should look up their website.

3. If you want to surf, fish, white beaches and don't mind to stay an hour away from the airport, then "Mimpimanis" is the place in Kuta, Lombk. Gemma from London can provide you valuable information and Made her spouse will fascinate you with deep sea fishing and your catch can be photographed and then cooked in all kinds of styles. Their prices are also very reasonable and this site has information. You can even view a latest video of a Brit couple's experience.

Since you have the time, you can split it between Sengiggi and Kuta.

Lombok is a low key but high quality kind of place. You can choose to go near Mt. Rinjani or climb all the way to the rim of a dormant volcano. You can splurge on a $10 dinner without drinks or enjoy "warung" food of fried chicken or "nassi goreng" (fried rice) for about a $. Similarly, you can choose a range of accommodation.

If you are going to travel in remote areas, you should think about Malaria pills. Otherwise, basic shots will be OK. Prescription drug "Ciprofloxacin" will be handy for Bali belly.

Sengiggi "downtown" has some night life and restaurants but it is lot quieter than Sanur, Ubud or Kuta areas of Bali. Bali is Hindu and Lombok mostly Muslim. If you don't bother Lombok Muslims, they will leave you alone.

I promise some Lombok veteran visitors will give you lots of advice.

If you likewater sports, relaxing, and mingling with an international crowd go to Kuta Lombok. But in my experience true budget and A/C don't go hand in hand. You are also going about peak season. Better scratch the A/C. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

Just on the A/C - Mimpi Manis has budget rooms with AC.
However, in July you really don't need it.
If you stay somewhere like Santai Beach Inn, their traditional thatched bungalows are made from bedek, the air flows right through and they are very pleasant in July.

Lombok or Bali? You really need to mention what you want to do on your holiday.

If you are planning a longer stay, at Mimpi Manis we have a house available for rent which gives you a bit more space and flexibility.

There is a bedroom and terrace upstairs and a living area and bathroom downstairs.

The rooms are fan cooled but as Freo mentioned you dont really need aircon in July.

The house has a room safe, dvd player (we have well over 1000 movies for you to watch), full sized fridge, kettle, and a drinking water dispenser which we keep replenished for you.

We also offer discounts for bookings of 1 month.

Have a look at www.mimpimanis.com if you would like more info. sunny

I had a great time in Lombok staying at Puri Mas on Mangsit beach, Senggigi. Read this article The Untouched bali that may help you.

Hi Mawar Kunning

Thank you for posting on Lombok Lovers. However you have posted on the old now defunct site. I would be happy if you would come over and join our new forum at http://lomboklovers.freeforums.org

I hope to see you there.
