Family of four adventure to Lombok & Gili's - advise needed!

We are a family of four, dad surfs so we are looking at staying in the Kuta area. Is this the best spot? Looking for accommodation around the $90.00 a night mark, with swimming pool - suggestions welcome. Kids are aged 11 and 8, and love to snorkel, which is the best spot on the Gili's to stay in your experience. So looking forward to this adventure.

If your planning to go to Gili Trawangan I think "Dream Village" is a very nice place to stay, it's my favorite place. Vey nice management. There isn't a swimmingpool but the bungalows are not more then 50 meters from the beach and the best snorkeling/swimming area. Plenty of other options thou with swimmingpool. The Beach House, Scullywags, Tir na Noch, Villa Ombak, Villa Almarik and so on.

Thank you for your help. I have just read on a few sites that malaria could be a problem? We plan to go in early December. Do most people just spray & sparay & spray?

I would like to share my views on this as a result of several visits to Lombok during the last ten years.

I have shots or other preventive measures except for Malaria. I wish there is a simple prevetive measure for that.

During my visits, as far as I know, I have never ventured into areas where Malaria could be prevalent. I have always stayed in urban areas for Indonesian standards. I have been exposed to mosquitos especially in the evenings.

I have also become aware that there could be someone in the urban area who has contracted Malaria and the exposed mosquitoes could spread it.

My personal belief is the risk is limited. I hope Freogirl a visitor and Mimpi an expatriate will offer their comments.
