| Hi, Am planning a trip to Lombok next month, part of which will be a family celebration. Can anyone suggest a good restaurant in Sengiggi area for a special occasion? Many thanks. And thank you to all for this forum. | |

| If your intent is to have a quiet dinner with a small number of participants, I would suggest the one in "Artists colony" or some such place near the Police Station. The second floor has a nice sea view. They close around 10 p.m.
If you are organizing one for a special occasion, then you might want to consider what we did. Last October we wanted to invite some friends and the number came up to 20-25, with a mixture of westerners and Indonesians. We used "The Beach Club". We did meet with Glenn the owner ahead of time to decide on the menu, the table set up, dessert items etc.
There was an unexpected rain storm but they accommodated us under the covered areas and served drinks. After the storm passed through, they quickly wiped the tables and chairs, hung the hurricane lanterns and brought the food and it went well.
If you decide in advance, they are prepared for the food and set up. They had all kinds of soft and fresh fruit drinks. Some of us had beer and gin and tonic.
They are on the website and you can do lot of consultation over telephone or email and finally in person. If Glenn is not available, you can talk to Dee also.
Enjoy your visit.
PS In Sengiggi Square, there is a restaurant but it is not in a quiet area.

| For a special occassion I'd recommend De Quake, which is located in the Art Market next to the Sheraton. | |

| Thanks for the replies. There will be ten of us so not quite enough to justify the Beach Club option i'd say.
Josi, were you recommending de Quake too? Is that the place you mean in the Artists colony? Cheers. | |

| Hi Redned,
At a spur of the moment and late in the evening we went to this restaurant. After seeing Freogirl's post, I am sure it was de Quake.
Everything was good. We were the only guests at the late hour and we received exclusive attention. Even on the second floor you get a feeling the sea waves are lapping at your feet.
Are you planning to give them some advance notice because of the size of your group?

| Funtrecker, yes De Quake is a bit pricey, but probably no worse than other 'upmarket' places to eat in Senggigi or Mangsit. It is in the Art Market next to the Sheraton, and the Art Market is next to the beach. From upstairs you have nice water views. Here is the link: http://www.dequake.com/index.htmlI recommended this one as they said 'special occasion'. If I was asked for recommendations for a group of 10 that was not expensive, I would have other ideas. For example, next to the airport is a locals restaurant Berugaq Datu. We had a family feast there last year, which we ordered ahead, and it was really excellent. All local dishes, some 'not hot' as we had kids there, and really nice food and inexpensive. But it is not on the water and not in Senggigi. It is a place that reminds me of the restaurants in Bali back in the early 80's - before they got westernised. It is not set up to cater for tourists, their clientele are locals. Another one that has a nice setting is Lina, and also Albertos if you sit on the sand. But I wouldn't rave about the food at either places. For further local quisine experiences, I would head toward Chakra for some Ayam Talliwang, but only if you have a strong stomach for chilli! | |

| the Square restaurant in Senggigi square is excellent, really high quality and a mix of cuisines, very good choice for a special night out I found and is as close to Fine Dining as you will probably get in Lombok. http://www.squarelombok.com/or go for the Sheraton and dine pool or beach side, they often have special BBQ nights etc but I have noticed that their menu has failed to keep up with the times over the last few years and has remained unchanged. But now there is some competition around I hope they will work on that. Their "special" nights are still worth a try though. Neither are cheap, but you did ask for something special We have never tried de Quake, will give it a look next month. | |

| Berugaq Datu will be on my list when I go to Lombok 1st April. I love the local food and is always looking for new places. Will invite a group of friends and family when I go there.
Have also heard that Kayu Manis in Senggigi and Coco Beach, Kerandangan has good food. In Mataram Seafood Nikmat comes with really good recommendations.
On Gili Trawangan the local Warung Indonesia, by the football field, has wonderful food.
I don't find it as fun and tasty to eat at the internationally oriented restaurants and the price is also a factor to consider. But everyone to there taste.
