Rates for the public ferries between Bali & Lombok have now increased and are as follows for one way trips
Foot Passengers Adults Rp36,000 Children 24,000
Motorbikes Rp100,000 (includes the passengers)
Car Rp695,000 (includes the passengers)
Ferries run 24 hours a day departing approximately every 2 hours.
Journey time approximately 4 hours.

Thanks for the info but if I have to choose I rather be flying or swimming than take those ferry's. By the way,yesterday I saw in the Lombok Post that a new fast ferry started to operate between padangbai,the gillis and lembar.Promo fair 150.000Rp one way.Seems a fair price.

I picked up a brochure yesterday in bali for a 'new' ? ferry service called Baruna. the "First Aluminium Fast Ferry from Bali to Lombok" Looks pretty new , big, fast. But they do the Benoa, PadangBai Lembar route. Not Gillis. www.barunabalilombok.com Looks like 350,000 Benoa to Lembar (via PadangB) 3.5 hours. "Spacious seat and sun deck to whom want to get tanned on their way (sic)"

the alum. ferry sounds close to the same price as air. BUT..if you have excess bagage and/or surfboards it would be a feasible alternative. Wonder what it'd cost to take a motorbike?
