You have to do at least three of the following to be promoted to a Lombok Lover:

1. Climb Mt. Rinjani
2. Make offerings at Batu Bolong Temple
3. Fast one whole day inside Mataram Mall
4. Travel by the slow ferry from Denpasar to Lombok
5. Learn all the key words of Sasak language
6. Swim between two gilis or
7. Eat durian for breakfast and dinner.

1. Climb Mt. Rinjani (too old and fat)
2. Make offerings at Batu Bolong Temple (wrong religion, but does praying in several local mosques to the entertainment of the locals count?)
3. Fast one whole day inside Mataram Mall (done. Extra points please for doing so in the Ramadan shopping crush - think Xmas shopping while fasting and you get the idea)
4. Travel by the slow ferry from Denpasar to Lombok (done, done, and done to death)
5. Learn all the key words of Sasak language (after 7 years still can only say "ow" (yes), "uwah" (already) and "uwee" (yesterday), plus "bambe" (goat), "meong" (guess - cat!), and "pituk" (bird) )
6. Swim between two gilis or (that was me - was waving not drowning)
7. Eat durian for breakfast and dinner. (next time I have a cold, so I can't smell it, ok?)

Deb you have only 12 posts. 50 posts would indeed make you a Lombok Lover.

The ranks are currently

Lombok Virgin 1
Lombok Friend 15
Lombok Lover 50
Lombok Soul Mate 100
Lombok Loony 250

I havent thought beyond 250 posts yet.

Any good ideas say for 500+

BTW number 6 on Josi's list "6. Swim between two gilis" is not to be advised. There are very strong currents between the islands.

I meant 50 years old!!!! I might be pushing it to fulfil Josi's list!!!
I wondered how you did your ratings.
Perhaps something to do with Addiction. Sounds like we are all Lombok Addicts!!! Can't wait to return.
Trying to start planning for July next year.

Definately wouldn't be trying the Gili one. Funny story last year trip over from Holiday Resort absolutely great. The return trip another story. Noticed there was one bucket on board. When we were leaving the Gili's our captain borrowed another 2 buckets and we spent most of the trip bucketing out the water and it was almost dark when we landed at Holiday Resort - real stomach turner!!!

Sort of scary!!! But fun!!! Just another experience!!
Deb.

I was thinking the buckets were to vomit into at first! I would have rathered that then for bailing out!

But yes, sometimes what seems scariest at the time is what you look back on and remember with a laugh!

It is pretty rare that anyone arrives back to Mangsit or Senggigi dry. The afternoon wind shifts to chop up the water and it is a wet and wild ride home. The good thing is that I've not heard of any of the tourist boats sinking No

Many years ago my husband was building a hotel on Gili T (on the site of the current villa ombak) and was on a boat taking timber over to the island which sunk. He and his brother were in the water for some time and nearly drowned. Lucky they had learned to swim, which many people of their generation did not. These days kids in Lombok get swimming lessons at school.
