license in lombok

I read a post from freogirl on another site discussing drivers license in lombok. where is it possible for a tourist with only a tourist visa to get a license in lombok?

In Bali I am sure that you can only get a one month visa if you are on a tourist visa. Not sure if that will be good enough for you. And I did try to get a licence in Lombok years ago and was told that I could not. But I do not know if that has changed or not.

If you are going to be in Bali for anything you could get one here. Made is here at the moment and will be extending his here as it is faster and cheaper than in Lombok. I paid Rp65,000 for my extension last month. A new license is Rp75,000.

Thanks Gema. I will be going to the US consulate in Bali at least twice to get a passport for our soon to be born. I will deal with license then. I assume I just go to the local police station. I will also have to extend my 30 day visa as I will be there 5 weeks and wasn't able to visit the indo consulate here beforehand. You said you will move back to Lombok soon Gema. Do you know when. My 17 yr old daughter and I are leaving for Lombok tonight. We would really like to drop in and see you, Made, and the little fella if you are there.

You need to go to Poltabes in Denpasar in Jl Gunung Sanghyang.

It is really easy to find. Just head out to kerobokan and follow Jalan Raya kerobokan till you come to Jalan Gunung Sanghyang on your right. Follow that road and look out for Poltabes on your right. The service is all streamlined and only you will be allowed into the office to make it. (cuts down on agents and corruption) Before you go in the main office you go to a small room to have your blood pressure and eyesight checked. Than in the big office you move from counter to counter waiting a few minutes before each stage. If you have any problems filling in the application form the guys on the door are happy to help. Re the move it will be a few months yet. Martin is paid up for next term in school so will let him finish that first I think and there will be quite a lot to arrange - removals and finding someone to sublet the house we are in. But I am sure I will be seeing more of you soon

Thanks for all the well wishes. Mom and baby are doing fine. Staying in Sengkol for now but hope to make the move to Kuta next week. Working on getting U.S. citizenship, passport, and S.S.# for baby. So hard to book flights Lombok - Bali short notice. Made 24 hr overland/ferry trip for a 1/2 hr visit to the consulate. Need to do it again with Mom and baby. But we will make a shopping trip out of it. Any advice on a moderate hotel not too far from the traffic circle in Denpasar?

Not sure what you mean by the traffic circle or where the US Embassy is but if it is in the same area as the Australian embassy you could base yourself in Sanur which isnt too far and has a good choice of hotels.

Sanur Beach Villas is Australian/Indonesian (husband & wife team) owned and their rooms are Rp300,000 last I looked. Rooms have TV & Fridge and there is a pool.

I was with my Visa agent yesterday when he took a call from another customer - dealing with a driving licence.

It seems that you can get your SIM in Lombok, however not nearly as easily as in Bali.

Pak Taufik charges Rp500,000 to get your SIM for you.
