We recently did a day trip around the Tabanan area that included Bali Butterfly Park. It doesnt seem to get an awful lot of visitors or talk about it on the Bali forums so I thought I would write a bit about it here.
It is fairly small and an hour or so is probably enough to sepnd there so it probably isnt worth a trip out of Kuta/Legian on its own but you could combine it as we did with Tanah Lot or some other sites in the area.
The park is located in Wanasabi - Head for the town of Tabanan and follow through the one way system. Once you see roadsigns for Panabel - follow that road and about 6/7km you will come to the Butterfly park on your left hand side.
Entrance is $6 for adults & $3 for children. There are no concessions for locals or KITAS holders. In Rupiah we paid Rp50,000/25,000.
There is a large covered garden with many species of butterfly flying all around you. There is also a pavillion where the newly hatched are and you can get a bit closer to some of them and have your photo taken with them on you.
Another pavillion is home to some very large stick insects which again you are free to hold and have your photo taken with.
In a darkened tunnel there are cased of beetles, spiders and scorpions.
The gardens are pleasant with waterfalls and streams it's defintely a place I would recommend for anyone in or passing through the area.
