| Exciting news for me. Oz-jet, which operates as Indo-jet from Perth is looking at direct flights to Lombok from Perth. Perth is a huge market for Lombok, it is only a 3 1/2 hour flight (as compared to 5 hours to Sydney for example), and probably more than 1/2 the population of Perth has been to Bali at least once. WA is also experiencing a massive boom in the mining industry so lots of people with spare cash who fly-in/fly-out of mine sites looking for a quick holiday on their week off. | Thats great news Freo. Both for you and for Lombok - hopefully we will see some more visitors now that they can fly direct from Perth. I was interested also to read another of the new stories further down the link, about the gold rush in Pelangan. I might head down there to check it out next week | |

| It hasn't happened yet - they are still in negotiations. I am hopeful, but I've had my hopes dashed in the past - Air Paradise once issued a press relesae that they were planning on direct flights on the same route that never eventuated. Of course there was good reason for that, but still.... | |

| Subject: New Garuda service from Chennai, India Wed Aug 06, 2008 1:25 am | |
| Garuda Airways announced start of daily service from Chennai, India to Medan, then Singapore and Bali. They expect the service to commence in November 2008. The Governor of North Sumatra is reported to have been an advocate of this service. It is also rumored the Indonesians want to offset a likely invasion of Aussies. It is feared the Aussies will encourage the producers of "Fosters" to swallo the local "bier" industry. Negotiations are underway to export "spiritualism" from India to the shores of Ubud, Sanur, Kuta and other sites frequented by the restless souls from the developed world. During the maiden flight from Chennai, India, a delegation of "swamis" plan to visit the Gili islands with an idea to inaugurate the first "ayurvedha" clinic there. One of their ideas is to integrate the products available on the beaches with the ones from India. | |

More likely the same Indian tourists attempting that take over the beer. Foster's in India is owned by SABMiller. No-one in Australia drinks Fosters, I don't know if you can even buy it here - never see it in the liquor store or at the pub. I don't think it is made here. The only time you ever hear about it is overseas. Really weird how it is promoted as an Australian beer! In Europe it's owned by Heinekin, and India by Sab Miller | |

| Karen,
Interesting to hear Fosters is not sold in Australia. It stands apart in the store shelves here because of its size. I thought it signified the average consumption in Australia.
Ever heard about "Outback" restaurants here? The ads will make references to "down under" but never to Australia. I thought that is how Aussies enjoy their steaks and deep fried whole onion for appetizer - then to my chagrin I learned it is a franchise based in Florida.
