| Has anyone done the Mt Rinjani trek? We went to Lombok last year and loved it, so we're going back in 12 weeks to climb Mt Rinjani. We want to go with a reputable tour company, but there's quite a few out there.... We're planning to do the 3 night, 4 day trek (I think!!). Any advice?? Loz | |

| Hi Loren I haven't done it, not fit enough but my other half has done it a few times (he's a local so not with a formal tour, but with a friend who's a guide). It looks amazing - I have seen a few posts on Thorn Tree forum about trekking Rinjani - maybe post there as well in case you don't get a reply here. Lucky you going back in 12 weeks. Think of me stuck back in Perth Freogirl | |

| Thanks Freo Girl for the info. Will check out the Thorn Tree Forum as well. I thought you were over there now?? Aren't you going back to live soon? We can't wait to go back. We really love it there. Don't know if we're fit enough either yet, but we've been going to the gym etc for 3 months and 3 months to go should help us! I love this forum - it seems so personal and cozy! Looking forward to spending more time on here! Bye for now and thanks again, Loren | |

| Loren, According to your first posting, your family will be arriving in Bali and Lombok during the last week of April 2009. For a few weeks now, there have been no postings by you. Pick one of the following: I have all the information I need about my trip. I have changed my mind With more information, I am now confused We have a domestic debate about a. Total leisure, b. Stress & leisure, c. Total stress We are concerned about some of the postings on hospital costs, ferry sinking, power blackouts I am hustling to save money to splurge there Josi | |

| My wife and I have climbed Rinjani and we both agree that it is the most picturesque volcano that we have climbed.
The views are amazing, to peer down into the caldera and see a large lake with another smaller volcano rising up out of it is amazing. We watched the clouds roll into the caldera, down to the lake to the other side and up and out again, brilliant.
We used a guide and three porters, it took us two nights and three days. Wished that we stayed longer in the caldera. There are hot springs there in which you can bathe.
We flew to Lombok from Bali and engaged our guide at the airport, he then took us to a Pondok on Rinjani. We stayed over night and commenced the climb early in the morning. It is great experience to walk up through the clouds and tree line, encountering monkeys along the way.
Have fun. Cheers. | |

| Hi Josi, etc! Yes we have nearly all the info we need. We've booked everything except the Volcano climb and the flight to Lombok from Bali. We're looking into different tour guides, etc now. Everyone has been really helpful with providing info!! Loren | |

Gecko, if want to put up an avatar go to Profile (green menu above) then there is another menu to the right side of the screen under the green menu and select Avatar. You can browse to a photo (note the size limits) or upload from a URL or just select something from the gallery on the forum. Once you click save your avatar will appear. | |
